Ashbourne Picnic Golf Day
Sunday 13th November 2011
The
The format is an Ambrose, with maximum male handicap of 27 and female maximum of 36. Anyone not able to pull together a 4 person team will have regular club players allocated to them to complete the numbers. We have NTPs and Long Drive prizes as well as Team prizes.
We supply the BBQ (meat, bread, condiments, utensils, plates, onions & potatoes) you bring your own salads, refreshments & something on which to sit.
We put a bottle of Port out on each hole, along with plastic cups, just in case you get thirsty! It’s available all day but just remember that someone has to drive home.
The golf, food, Port & prizes are supplied at a cost of $30 per player. If an adult wants to come along for the BBQ only then the cost is $5. Children & pets eat for free. A few people have been known to bring pets along - not an issue at this course.
The day starts between 8.30-9am with lunch after 9 holes are completed. Eventually once lunch is partially digested, we struggle back out to play the second nine holes. The golf part is usually all over by 3 - 3.30pm.

DIRECTIONS
Firstly, get to Meadows. Simplest method is SE Freeway to Hahndorf, turn right at the chemist (main turn off main road), a left and a right at Echunga, and a left at Meadows. If you live in the southern suburbs, probably easier via Flagstaff Hill Rd, Chandlers Hill, Clarendon and Kangarilla (about 50 minutes from the bottom of Flagstaff Hill Rd to Ashbourne Golf Course)
From Meadows
1.Head east on Mawson Rd (main road) towards Mill St for 1.2 km
2. Slight right onto Adelaide-Goolwa Rd for 10.1 km (at the fork in the main road)
3. Continue onto Ashbourne Rd for 3.3 km (don’t turn off to Paris Creek)
4. Turn left onto Ashbourne Rd (at the Greenman Inn, as the telephone box is no longer there, as discovered in 2010) towards Strathalbyn for 900 metres
5. Take the 1st right on to Green Rd for 600 metres
Go along Green Rd and about 600 metres on the right is the world famous 9 hole Ashbourne Golf Course, with a tall row of pines lining the driveway (about 50 minutes from the Tollgate)
From the Meister:
28 August - Tanunda - 11am, with a small group making a weekend of it, staying up and playing at least one other course. Contact the new EET Golf Club Singles Champion if you are interested.
18 September - Fleurieu (or Mt Compass if you are so inclined) - 9.30am. Don't think there'll be any interest in the AFL season by then.
Weekend of either 15/16 or 22/23 October - Annual Road Trip, and this year it is Mildura. Probably play Riverside Friday, Mildura Country Club Saturday and Coomealla on the Sunday. The new EET Golf Club Singles Champion will be booking 5 rooms at this stage, but if anyone not at golf yesterday is interested, please scream out. Actual date will be confirmed shortly, but the current EET Golf Club Singles Champion is waiting to see if Tatts is coming just for his betting prowess at either the Caulfield Cup or the Cox Plate. (for those who are unaware, Tatts said one year - "give me your money, I've got a hot tip!" Backed the wrong horse number, wrong race number, and I think the wrong State, but won a lot of cash for those of us drunk enough to part with the hard earned!!!)
November will be the traditional Ashbourne Ambrose, so start getting your teams organised now! Usually the second Sunday, but will confirm later, when the newly crowned Cadel Evans of the EET golfing world, the Maillot Jeune EET Golf Club Singles Champion books and advises. Maybe we can start another EET Golf tradition, a bit like the TDF, and present our champion with a golf shirt???? Given that he is probably the only person able to fit into our current stock of shirts, he can probably pick his own colour - either blue or green, and we can label all future champions "the blue or green shirt"!!!
Happy to discuss this proposal with anyone stupid enough to respond, but open to further developments or improvements on the suggestion - (eg. Not allowed the Wellman Award, as our club shirt lacks the panache of the salmon, taupe or lemon coloured standards we've come to expect of a worthy winner). Also don't want the negative stifling crap that SoftOck usually responds with, as I see the EET Golf Club as a progressive and positive individual nurturing type of organisation. (well at least one learns very quickly how to cope with abuse, slanging matches, the Judge's encouraging words and bad behaviour!)
December - we're gunna play Echunga, (usually about a 7.30 tee-off) and turn up at Ross and Ros's for the traditional XMAS BBQ, whether they're there or not! Usually the first or second Sunday - also will confirm after the recently crowned EET Golf Club Singles Champion advises.
