28/01/15: North Adelaide
Yet another perfect day for golf. 25 C, with a one-club breeze. The greens were in good condition once again and the return of Pring, Gordge, Boyle & Beggs added much-needed talent.
Nine starters, with some excellent scores - a tough school to win any money !!
Front nine: Boyle (21) from Pring (19) and Whicker (18)
Back nine: Gordge (24) from Crathern K (22) and Pring (19)
Overall: Gordge (41) from Crathern K (39), Pring (38), Boyle (34), Beggs & Whicker (33)
Birdies:
Whicker: par 4 tenth
Four point holes:
Gordge: par 4 eighth, par 4 seventeenth (the two toughest holes on the course)
Crathern: par 4 fourteenth
Mensforth: par 4 eleventh
A special mention for:
- Bob Batty's best round to date
- Don Boyle chasing his buggy down the steep slope of the fifteenth fairway. Poetry in motion.
Next Wednesday: South Course, 10.30 tee.

Wednesday Competition
21/01/15: North Adelaide
Another wonderful day for golf. Warm (~25 C) and overcast with only a faint breeze. The greens were a bit furry and variable, but not bad enough to excuse the lousy scores all round (except for Damien, of course)
Only six starters, with the cream of the Wednesday crowd absent (Boyle, Pring, Beggs & Gordge).
Damien (16+19=35) won all the money and my dog is still trying to digest the other scorecards.
Four point holes:
Methofer: Par 4 tenth (a difficult hole for everyone but Phil)

Wednesday Competition
05/01/2015: The Vines, Reynella
Played on a Monday to avoid a forecast shocker on Wednesday. Lovely day, about 30C and sunny with a light/mild breeze. Played at the Vines using vouchers provided by Pring/Milde - well done guys. Plenty of run on the fairways (hard & dry) with the greens in good condition (and easy to read) !!
Seven starters, with an outstanding performance by Kev Crathern (43 points) and a couple of other good scores.
Front nine: Crathern (24 points) from Whicker (19) and Pring (17)
Back nine: Whicker (20) from Crathern (19) and Pring (17)
Overall: Crathern (43) from Whicker (39) and Pring (34)
Birdies:
Pring on par 3 third (a 10 metre putt)
Whicker on par 5 fifth and par 3 fourteenth (an 11 metre putt)
Four point holes:
Crathern: par 4 eighth
As expected, Boyle & Whicker triumphed over Pring & Gordge (just).

Wednesday Competition
31/12/14: North Adelaide
Final game for 2014 on a typically perfect day for golf. About 28C and sunny with a faint, cooling breeze.
Nine starters, each with a chance of winning given that Mr Gordge was away on holidays. A special appearance by Treasurer Ross failed to lift the standard - the scores were generally ordinary, although the old fox (Damien) performed well.
Front nine: Damien (19 points) from Peter & Greg (16)
Back nine: Kevvy (19) from Damien (18), Phil & Greg (17)
Overall: Damien (37) from Greg (33) & Phil (31)
Highlights:
(i) Ross' monster drive off the back blocks of the seventh tee (standing next to the traffic lights at the top of Montefiore Hill). An absolute beauty. His ball actually travelled about 30 metres further than the one he played for his second shot. Fortunately, Don was able to apply the correct penalty. The same penalty applied a few holes later when Don played the wrong ball.
(ii) Damien's mis-judgement in handicap management. With 37 points, his handicap might actually reduce !!!
(iii) Peter's drive on the 18th. If you lined up the two blue tee markers, you could see that the ball had just rolled forward an inch. A classic magic trick where you drive the tee about 10 metres without touching the ball. Brought tears to the eyes.
