Highlight:
Ross' drive on the par 4 fifteenth (the mongrel with the 90 degree dogleg) went to the right of the dogleg trees, bounced along the brick path next to the 16th tee, rolled over several mounds and finished on the fringe of the green, about 12 feet from the flag. Scrambled the par !!

Wednesday Competition
Wednesday 28/03/2018: North Adelaide
A nostalgic return to the South Course on a perfect autumn day for golf. Just the four starters, with George Cleland being the only one to play two good nines. The back nine was downright embarrassing for some. Probably won't rush to play there again.

Back nine: Cleland (19)
Overall: Cleland (36) from Whicker (31), Crathern (30)

Back nine: Whicker (22) from Harding (21), Freeman, Crathern & Batty (19)

Sunday Competition - Patawalonga
11/03/2018: Patawalonga
Fourteen starters in perfect weather (although a touch warm by the finish) with a clear blue sky and a slight breeze (~ 1 club). The course was in excellent condition.
Highlights:
- As is usual at the Pat, scores were generally good. Kev Crathern made a mess of the competition with 46 points, including 25 on the back nine. Vin-like.
- First EET appearance (and 40 points) by Sam Wellman, aka 'Son of Noel'. His modesty, talent and quietness-on-course suggests he was adopted.
- The Acting-Captain's speech after the game was outstanding.
EET Singles Competition 2018 - first round. Four matches decided:
- Jill Thomas by 1 shot over George Cleland. George's 19/19/38 round didn't quite overcome the 28 shots he had to give Jill.
- Stephen Gordge def Noel Wellman (who was dogged by bad luck, as usual)
- Helen Cooper def Peter Harding (despite a slightly sluggish start - 14 on the first)
- Greg Whicker def Paul Crathern (Steve White will be surprised)
Stableford Competition - Ball winners:
Kevin Crathern (46)
Sam Wellman (40)
Jill Thomas & Greg Whicker (39)
George Cleland (38)

Peter Harding & Ross Townsend (33)
Noel Wellman (32)

Wednesday Competition
28/02/2018: Willunga
Six starters on our first visit to Willunga for a long, long time. On a perfect day for golf, the course was very busy, well maintained and interesting, with a number of huge greens. Overall, a pleasant course which is relatively short, but worth an occasional visit.
The highlight of the day was Bronte (henceforth "the new Damien"), arriving at the course without his golf clubs. Scores were generally pretty average, with Mal Freeman winning the day on only his second round with EET.
Front nine: Harding (17) from Freeman (16)
Back nine: Crathern (18) from Freeman & Methofer (17), Whicker & Cleland (16)
Overall: Freeman (33) from Harding & Crathern (32), Methofer (31)
Next Week: TUESDAY Mt Osmond 12.30 pm (two tees)
Whicker has 3 Entertainment Book vouchers - can someone please bring one more (just in case).

Wednesday 21/02/2018: Mount Compass
Eight starters on an excellent day for golf, with the course in very good condition for mid-February. A special welcome to Mal Freeman for his first game with EET.
The competition was ruined by "Seagull" Milde with a lazy 43 points, which included 24 on the back nine, three scrubs and consecutive birdies.

Wednesday Competition
14/02/18: Echunga
Seven starters on a perfect day for golf, with the course in good condition, although damp in places after heavy watering. Good to see Phil Methofer back after an injury absence, though his knee is likely to require a replacement operation.
Good scores generally, although especially pleasing to see 42 points by Kevin Crathern (reducing his handicap for the Ambrose at Victor in a couple of weeks time).

04/02/2018: Victor Harbor - Group 4 Competition
EET was well represented with 5 groups in the annual Group 4 competition at Victor Harbor. Unfortunately, not amongst the prizewinners, with only Kevin Crathern winning a bottle of wine in C Grade and Mr Beggs winning a raffle (has his luck changed ?).

The "Ferals" are considering a name change to the "Lumberjacks" given the number of trees they hit. One Feral, who shall remain nameless (but who is currently devoting more time to his family), brought tears to the eyes of those who witnessed his shots in the trees next to a water hazard on the 16th.

Wednesday Competition
Tuesday 30/01/2018: Flagstaff Hill
Nine starters on a fine, but cool and breezy, afternoon at Flagstaff Hill which was in good condition (and cheap at $20 per round). The golf shop lad arranged for EET to tee off "before the old blokes" (a horde waiting for the afternoon's 9-hole competition). We suggested he visit Specsavers.
Batty blitzed the field again. Unfortunately, his new clubs seem to be working.
Front nine: Batty & Grybowski (18), Gordge (17)
Back nine: Batty (21), Harding (18), Pring, Whicker & Grybowski (17), Crathern (16)
Overall: Batty (39), Grybowski (35), Whicker (32), Gordge (30)

Wednesday Competition
Tuesday: 23/01/2018: Mount Osmond
Just the four starters on a sunny day which was about 26C at the start (1pm) but finished up really warm. The temperature, humidity and hills meant the drinks afterwards didn't touch the sides.
Nothing to brag about with our scores - Unlike the recent round at Thaxted by our former EET Singles Champion, Craig Burrett, who shot 75 off the stick, including four birdies. Despite his natural modesty, Craig would be happy to describe each shot in graphic detail, should you care to call him and have an hour to spare.
Front nine: Crathern (21) from Batty (17)
Back nine: Whicker (17)
Overall: Whicker (32)
As expected, the Batty/Whicker combination took the money from Crathern/Pring. Kevin has booked a physio for his shoulders.

Sunday Competition - Wirrina
21/01/2018: Wirrina
Mr Pring reports:
21 starters on a hot ,muggy day. The forecast from different sources said 24 or 26, but it felt about 32 and moist. Out of the direct sun was pretty good and the late sea-breeze made a difference. The course was in less than perfect conditions – I don’t think tee blocks should be crunching dead grass underneath, and a couple of greens were half dead. Also, quite a lot of very fine couch (Maybe Santa Anna, Helen can confirm this, as with most things) but a lot of tendrils were moving onto a lot of putting greens. The greens were very slow.........
Bob Batty and Joan Connell – 32
S Gordge, G Cleland, Kev Sampson and K Crathern all on 31 points.

My electric cart died by the 9th, went to swap it
out, and 3 of the 4 carts available were dead as a doornail, and the one I took
was half charged only. They charged $42 per cart – more than most
courses. Most punters I spoke to did not want to return.
Winner on the day was the Meister with a beautifully crafted
41 points – I put it down to the coaching from the 3 ladies, plus a Jenny
Wellman hanger-on! Guys, if you want a good round, play around with the
ladies!! (Editor's Note: perhaps should read "play a round.." although maybe not ...)
Second with 36 points was shared between Jill Thomas and
Paul Crathern
Steve White – 34Bob Batty and Joan Connell – 32
S Gordge, G Cleland, Kev Sampson and K Crathern all on 31 points.
Long Drive – Men’s – Meister
Long Drive – Ladies – Kerri Oreo
NTPs: Cleland, D Oreo, Meister, and Kerri Oreo.
Next round , we will treat the Group 4 Comp at Victor as a
normal monthly round, due to the low number of nominated teams down there. So
Victor 4th February shotgun start 9am.

Wednesday Competition
16/01/2018: Echunga

Front Nine: Batty ((19) from Whicker (17), Cleland & Crathern (16)
Back nine: Crathern & Cleland (18) from Batty & Whicker (16)
Overall: Batty (35) from Crathern & Cleland (34), Whicker (33)

Wednesday Competition
Two rounds at country courses have kicked off the Wednesday Comp for 2018. The general feeling is that we should continue to vary the courses for Wednesdays using Entertainment Book vouchers, Scoopons etc to mitigate costs wherever possible. Mount Osmond, Mount Barker, Flagstaff Hill, Willunga are covered by EB vouchers, Echunga, Mt Compass & the Pat are popular ..... etc.
03/01/2018: Mount Compass
Eleven starters for the "holiday" round at Mt Compass, on a lovely day for golf. The course was in excellent condition, though the greens provided a challenge. Milde continued his sparkling form, whilst Wellman relished being (currently) the best golfer in his family
Well done to:
Milde and Wellman 37 points
Whicker 34
Sampson 32
Oreo 31
Birdies:
Milde Par 4 thirteenth
Sampson Par 4 thirteenth
Whicker Par 4 first
10/01/2018: Echunga
Four starters on a perfect morning for golf - 25C, overcast, faint breeze and no-one ahead of us (< 3.5 hour round).
Whicker (37) narrowly from Cleland (35) and Pring (30).
Birdies: Cleland on par 4 eleventh
Next Week: TBA - forecast very hot conditions for Wednesday (will send out email)
