Wednesday Competition
Thursday 08/12/16: The Vines, Reynella
Seven starters used Pring's vouchers for the Vines on a cool, windy day that included a torrential downpour that drenched the second group on the eighteenth green. The first group of Pring/Gordge/Batty, who were in the clubhouse having a beer, thought it funny. A fitting finale for those who forgot 'the greens always slope to the sea, except for the ones that don't'. Fortunately, the wet scorecards were mostly unreadable.
Front nine: Milde (19) from Pring (16)
Back nine: Milde (16) from Pring (15)
Overall: Milde (35) from Pring (31)
Birdies:
Milde: par 3 sixth - 190+ metres from the back of the elevated blue tees, into a howling gale, onto a visciously sloping green, with the sun in his eyes .......etc.....
Four Point Holes:
Gordge: par 4 eleventh
The team of Milde/Whicker (OK, just Milde) too good for Methofer/Mensforth
Next week: Wednesday North Adelaide, 10.19 am

Echunga Results
04/12/16: Echunga
About 16 starters for the annual Xmas round at Echunga, with the traditional early tee time followed by BBQ lunch at the Prings. Many thanks to the Prings, Bronte, Ross etc for the organisation, except for the fairly constant drizzle (which at least provided an excuse for the scores).
Prizes to:
Noel Wellman: 37 points (no, really !!!)
Peter Pring & David Grybowski 35
Greg Whicker & Bronte Milde 34
Graeme Kewen 32
Paul Crathern 30
Long Drives:
Men: Steve White
Ladies: Kerri Oreo (no, really !!!)
NTPs: Noel Wellman, Bronte Milde, Kerri Oreo
Birdies:
Kevin Sampson par 3 second
EET Singles Competition:
Bronte Milde snuck in over David Oreo to advance to the 2016 Singles Grand Final - the match didn't apparently reach great heights.
Bronte is most likely to be up against Damien Mensforth in the Grand Final - we're just awaiting the Boyle/Freestone quarter-final, with the winner to play Damien in the semi-final.
HIghlights:
(i) Given the Echunga results, Kerri is currently the 'winningest' golfer in the Oreo household.
(ii) Helen Cooper bolted in the women's competition.

Wednesday Competition
16/11/16: North Adelaide
Seven starters on a pretty warm (~30C), sunny and generally calm day, with the course in very good condition. Reasonable scores.
Highlights included:
- Batty taking the money yet again with 36 points
- Methofer and Sampson both with very short putts and birdies on the par 3 sixteenth. Sampson's 2 for 4 points lost the hole to Methofer's 2 for 5.
- Methofer's second shot on the par 3 twelfth from about 9 metres right of the right hand bunker (near the tee block for the thirteenth). His putt went into and through the bunker, up & over the steep lip to drop lightly near the pin for a 'routine' par.
Front nine: Sampson, Whicker & Milde (17), from Boyle & Batty (16)
Back nine: Batty (20) from Whicker & Methofer (17), Milde (16)
Overall: Batty (36) from Whicker (34), Milde (33).

Ashbourne Results
13/11/16: Ashbourne
Many thanks to the 50+ hardy souls who turned out despite the very ordinary weather forecast. In the event, it wasn't too bad - cool and windy, but only a couple of spots of drizzle that quickly blew over.
Yesterday's email has already mentioned the special organising efforts of Messrs Milde, Pring, Wellman and Bartlett. The new format seemed to be an improvement, but feedback is welcome if you disagree.
Well done to:
Rob Lucke's Team #1 - winners yet again on 53.5
Tatarelli's Team - runners up on 54.375
The 'Ferals' - a podium finish on 55.125, despite being dogged by bad luck throughout
The 'Marcia's' who birdied the par 3 third hole twice (3rd and 12th holes) with two of the finest tee shots you will see for a long time.
The 'Minge's Whingers' for the best team name and for defeating the Marcia's by one stroke.

Wednesday Competition
09/11/16: North Adelaide
For what seems like the first time in living memory, none of the seven starters scored less than 30 points. There were quite a few eclectic holes due to the perfect day for golf - 22C, a light cooling breeze and the course mown and in good condition.
Peter Pring "Trumped" the opposition with 40 points, thereby reducing his handicap and the Ferals' chances of winning Ashbourne on Sunday.
Front nine: Pring (20) from Methofer (19), Whicker (18), Milde (17), Mensforth (16)
Back nine: Milde (21) from Batty & Pring (20), Mensforth (19), Whicker (18), Boyle (17)

Riverland Trip - Waikeri/Berri/Loxton
October 2016 Riverland Trip:
About nineteen starters for the annual October get-away, including special appearances by Ken James, Kevin Sampson and Graeme Kewen, plus our four ladies.
Very well done to:
- Bronte for the excellent accommodation (Big River, Berri) and the fine weather on Friday (Waikeri) and Saturday (Berri)
- George Cleland, who again won the Vinne due to an excellent round on the Sunday
The only downsides were;
- the Loxton greens had just been cored & sanded and it blew a gale during much of the round on Sunday
- our mandatory 'Quaddy'. We lost on the first race, despite having the top 6 rated horses.
Waikeri:
Bronte Milde, Noel Wellman & Greg Whicker (31)
Berri:
Jenny Wellman (35) from George Cleland & Greg Whicker (33), Peter Pring (30)
Loxton:
Bob Batty & George Cleland (38) from Peter Pring (36), David Oreo (34), Kevin Sampson & Ross Townsend (32), Bronte Milde (31) and Graeme Kewen (30)

26/10/16: North Adelaide (Meister report)
Only 5 starters on a nice day for golf which produced very ordinary scores, except for Damien (41 points). The old fox obviously had a major memory lapse, forgetting all about handicap management. He finally remembered after the 16th hole and scrubbed the final two holes, but the damage had been done !!!!
Front nine: Damien - an outstanding 25 points, from Peter and Bob (17)
Back nine: Damien (16)
Overall: Damien (41)
The Milde scoring system for prize money meant that Kevin won the back nine with 11 points........
Four point holes:
Damien: par 5 second, par 3 sixth
Peter: par 4 seventeenth
Phil: par 4 fourth (Eclectic Hole)

Seven starters on a pleasant day for golf, despite the forecast of a 'few showers', including a guest appearance by George Cleland.
The course played fairly long due to the recent wet weather, but the fairways are recovering nicely from the winter punishment. Scores were dominated once again by "the Machine" - Phil Methofer - with a lazy 40 points, with George and Greg not disgraced.

28/09/16: North Adelaide (Pringmeister report)
Only 4 starters on a day prior to the heavens opening up. Cool to cold in the shade, warm in the sun. with a cool breeze. No more pick up, clean and place on the fairway, although this may change tomorrow after 60mm of rain.
Greens were also cored, (and not swept off completely),
sanded and fertilised, so the occasional putt headed off at right angles –
although it obviously helped Phil...
Overall: Methofer (36) from Mensforth 30
4 point holes: Methofer – Par 3 fifth (plus 8 x 3 point holes!!!)
07/10/16: Patawalonga (Adelaide Shores)
Only three starters on a Friday (following the downpours earlier in the week). North Adelaide unavailable.
The weather was excellent, but the tenth hole was out of action, meaning three temporary holes (which meant the scores were fairly meaningless). However, a nice social day from the white tees.
Mensforth (39 points) from Batty and Whicker (35).

Damien Mensforth and Brian Beggs put on a very enjoyable, titanic struggle which was even after 17 holes. Rat cunning triumphed on the final hole as Damien played a wonderful third shot up the hill, close to the pin.

Back nine: Mensforth with 18 points
Overall Pring & Methofer 32 points from Mensforth 30 pts.

Six starters for the last day of winter, which turned out to be a nice day for golf - mild, very slight breeze, none of the forecast showers. Bob Batty and Brian Beggs back in business.
EET Singles Comp:
Damien Mensforth and Brian Beggs put on a very enjoyable, titanic struggle which was even after 17 holes. Rat cunning triumphed on the final hole as Damien played a wonderful third shot up the hill, close to the pin.
Daily Comp:
Front nine: Methofer with an impressive 22 points. Pring with a creditable 19 pts
Back nine: Mensforth with 18 points
Overall Pring & Methofer 32 points from Mensforth 30 pts.

Barossa Valley and Wednesday Comp
Wednesday 24/08/16: North Adelaide
Five starters, including the welcome return of Bob Batty (9 holes), on a nice day for golf.
The very ordinary run of scores throughout this winter continued, with 30 points never threatened. Milde triumphed, but it was a bit like watching the Power beat Gold Coast.
Sunday 28/08/16: Barossa Valley (Nuriootpa) - Report from the Meister
Sunny with a cold breeze to start with, but eventually everyone had their jumpers off. Glorious day indeed.
NTPs Kenny Freestone, Paul Crathern, Slugger, Jenny Wellman, and the Meister
Long Drives Helen Cooper and Kenny Freestone
5 point holes Helen Cooper – par 4 sixteenth (Geez! Parred it with three handicap shots!)
4 point holes
- Kerri Oreo - Par 4 eighth and Par 4 eighteenth
- Jenny Wellman - Par 3 fifteenth
- Helen Cooper – Par 5 second and par 5 fourteenth
- Kenny Freestone – par 5 second, par 5 fifth, par 4 eighth (then fell away badly after 23 points on the front nine)
- Meister – par 5 second
Winner on the day
The Meister with 38 points!

ball-winners.
Comments:
- Good to see the women improving, even if a little
inconsistent still, but dominating the four point hole leaderboard.
Just need to eliminate a couple of scrubs per round.
- We are all eagerly anticipating the day that
Jenny Wellman has a lower handicap than the Vice President. It is getting
closer!

Wednesday Competition
17/08/16: North Adelaide
Ecelectic Holes:
Don: 4 on fourth, four on forteenth
Next week: Wednesday 10.30 am North Adelaide
A clear, sunny, calm, day for golf (20C) with the course recently mown (finally dry enough), but the greens cored.
Five starters, but Damien didn't finish. Phil produced the highest score for the winter - a very creditable 35 points. Those '8 for 3 points' holes really help !!!
Money to Phil overall, Peter front nine, Greg back nine.

Don: 4 on fourth, four on forteenth

Don: par 4 forteenth

Wednesday Competition
There have been few reports in recent weeks due to a combination of rain, a very wet course, colds/flu, gender re-assignments and travel. The scores of those few who have played during the past month generally ranged from poor to appalling. Despite this, there have been improvements in most people's eclectic scores during the past month, including
Pring: 4 on 11th and 18th
Mensforth: 4 on 4th, 5 on 13th
Whicker: 4 on 7th
Crathern: 4 on 14th
Methofer: 4 on 14th.
(If I have missed any, just send details with the Lagavulin).
03/08/16: North Adelaide. Pring report:
One drizzly shower for 3-4 minutes, with splashes of sunlight, a lot of cloud and a cold
easterly breeze
Pring: 4 on 11th and 18th
Mensforth: 4 on 4th, 5 on 13th
Whicker: 4 on 7th
Crathern: 4 on 14th
Methofer: 4 on 14th.
(If I have missed any, just send details with the Lagavulin).
03/08/16: North Adelaide. Pring report:
Phil sizzled in the muddy conditions with 30 points, hitting his drives mostly straight and long (who would have thought !!!)
Damo got anything up to 3 inches of run on the fairway
centres. Respectable score.
Meister hit maybe 4 fairways and struggled to get past Damo. Non respectable score.
11/08/16: North Adelaide.
Played in perfect conditions on the Thursday to avoid the wet Wednesday. Still crap scores all round.
The Pring/Methofer combination proved far too good for Milde/Whicker.
Next Wednesday (17/08/16) - North Adelaide, 10.19 & 10.25 am
Monday, July 11, 2016
Fleurieu - Mt Compass
Sunday 10/07/16
Just six starters due to the forecast rain and strong winds. Didn't get wet, but the very strong northerly wind and the difficult pin placements made for some interesting holes.
No-one reached 30 points, although Ross went very close. There were some outstanding individual shots and holes, but it was very difficult to maintain consistency throughout.
Highlights:
- Ross' approach to the third green (about 80 metres from the sandy rough, across about 50 metres of green to within a few inches - pin on extreme right)
- Ross' tee shot to the par 3 twelfth - a 165 metre five iron directly into a howling gale, over the dam, with the pin positioned on the extreme right of the green
- Stephen's chip to the par 3 twelfth - ran at least 50 metres across the undulating green to within a few inches
- Brian, Ross and Greg put consecutive tee shots onto the par 3 fourteenth - 175 metres straight into a howling gale
- Stephen's sand wedge on the eighteenth from a plugged lie in the vertical face of the bunker just short of the green. You won't see a better bunker shot.
- As you would expect, Damien took the prize. Waiting on the tee of the par 3 fifth hole, we notice Damien & Bob driving their golf cart haphazardly around the green, then backwards and forwards back along the fairway, then onto the previous fairway - WTF !!!! People occasionally misplace gloves, club covers or even individual clubs, but Damien had lost his whole golf bag !!!! First time any of us could recall having to search for a golf bag.

(iii) Steve White snuck in over Greg Whicker - deja vu all over again !!

Wednesday Competition
15/06/16: North Adelaide
Nine starters, who once again wish to remain anonymous, on the most perfect day for golf - sunny, calm and ~20C. Tees still well back, with little fairway run. Again, no-one reached 30 stableford points and my border collie is refusing to eat any more score-cards.
Front nine: Whicker (15), Boyle (14)
Back nine: Gordge (15), Crathern (14)
Overall: Whicker (28), with several very talented, handsome & witty golfers on 27 & 26
Birdies: Whicker - par 3 sixth (another lucky putt)
Four point holes: Yeah, sure !!
Eclectic holes:
Gordge: 10th, 11th, 13th, 17th
Mensforth: 3rd
Whicker: 6th

07/06/16: North Adelaide
Five starters, who all wish to remain anonymous, played on the Tuesday to avoid the forecast wet Wednesday. A beautiful day (cool & calm) on which golf was the clear winner - helped by (i) a total lack of run on the fairways and (ii) the blue tees being as far back as possible.
On such a lovely day, participation was far more important than competition - so scores will not be publicised.
No birdies, no four point holes and only Eddie (doh !!) improved his eclectic score.

25/05/16: Patawalonga
With North Adelaide unavailable, five hardy souls drove through steady rain to the Pat and played the first hole or two in drizzle. Miraculously, the rain then held off for the rest of the round and back nine scores were pretty reasonable.
Front nine: Crathern & Boyle (16)
Back nine: Boyle & Whicker (23), from Crathern (22) and Batty (18)

Results from Glenelg, The Vines & Nth Adelaide
Wednesday 11/05/16: North Adelaide
Seven starters on a lovely autumn day for golf, with diabolical scores - no one reached 30 points.
Front nine: Whicker (17) from Methofer (16)
Back nine: Beggs (14)
Overall: Methofer & Whicker (29)
Sunday 15/05/16: Glenelg
Many thanks to 'The Future' and his long-suffering wife for the pre-match BBQ.
Eighteen EET members were then let loose on the Glenelg course in beautiful weather, although darkness disrupted the last hole or two for some.
Only Beggs (33), Gordge & Freestone (31) walked away with their heads moderately high. Note that:
- With Welmann overseas, no-one landed on the clubhouse roof
- Jill Thomas confirmed that all 57 bunkers on the course were in excellent condition.
Birdies:
Oreo: par 4 sixth
Burrett: par 5 twelfth
Four Point Holes:
Beggs par 4 thirteenth and par 4 fifteenth
Freestone: par 4 eighth and par 4 tenth
Batty: par 5 twelfth
Crathern P: par 3 eleventh and par 5 eighteenth
Cooper: par 4 eighth and par 4 seventeenth
Thomas: par 4 thirteenth
2016 Singles Comp:
Darkness prevented futher play with Oreo one-up after 17 holes. Pring is adamant that he would have won the 18th (his signature hole) and any subsequent play-off. However, since he is about to swan off overseas again, he has let Oreo progress to the next round - what a guy !!
Thursday 19/05/16: The Vines
Nine starters took advantage of vouchers for the Vines on a day when forecast showers held off. Only three beat 30 points, with Bob Batty having a career-best 39 points. I am told that his short game & putting was outstanding.
Question: Having seen Bob putt on the flat greens at North Adelaide, how the hell can he sink putts on the Vines' greens that are either unreadable or optical illusions ??
Batty (39), from Methofer (33) and Milde (30)

Good Friday and Wednesday Results
Wednesday 23/03/16: North Adelaide
Seven starters on a perfect Autumn day for golf, featuring a guest appearance (donation) from Ken Freestone and some god-awful golf (except for Phil). My border collie is still trying to digest most of the cards.
Front nine: Phil Methofer (21)
Back nine: Bronte Milde (17)
Overall: Methofer (34) from Milde (31)
Phil's birdie 2 for 5 points on the fifth was the only highlight of the day (and no apology)

Fourteen starters for most people's first look at the Oakbank course. Perfect weather, with the fairways in reasonable condition and a beautiful texture on the greens.
Some pretty ordinary scores, except for the brilliance of Oreo (38 points) and the consistency of Crathern K (35 points).
Highlights:
(i) David Oreo: second shot on the par 5 fifteenth was majestic. Wimped the eagle putt, but an easy birdie.
(ii) Helen Cooper: birdie four for 5 points on the par 5 sixth.
Many thanks to the Prings for the BBQ etc. afterwards.
Seven starters on a perfect Autumn day for golf, featuring a guest appearance (donation) from Ken Freestone and some god-awful golf (except for Phil). My border collie is still trying to digest most of the cards.
Front nine: Phil Methofer (21)
Back nine: Bronte Milde (17)
Overall: Methofer (34) from Milde (31)
