Well done to Bronte and all responsible for arranging the 2017 road trip to Kingston SE.
The best and most consistent golf for the weekend was clearly played by George Cleland, now the deserved holder of back-to-back Vinnies. A special mention for his eagle 3 on the par 5 second at Lake Albert. Ross had the chance to challenge on the final day, but was brought undone by a Kingston curry which required a very anxious drive back to Adelaide.
Off-field highlights:
- EET gatherings on the first two nights cleared the caravan park of other visitors, with MVP awards to Ken James and Steve White
- The AGM on Saturday night set a new standard... Helen becomes our new Vice Captain as what's-his-name wanted to spend more time with his family
- Once again, there was good and not-so-good news for our horse racing syndicate.
Day 1: Kingston SE

David Grybowski (31)
Jill Thomas and Jenny Wellman (28 points).

Paul Crathern (33)
Helen Cooper (32)
Jenny Wellman (31)

Ashbourne Results
12/11/17: Ashbourne Ambrose / Picnic
Another successful day with about 55 starters at Ashbourne for the annual Ambrose competition. The decision to commence a little earlier and play the 18 holes prior to the BBQ lunch turned out well - the ideal conditions early in the round turned fairly warm and humid by lunch time.
Well done to all who arranged the event and assisted on the day, with outstanding work by the Vice-Captain.
Ambrose Competition:
(1) 51.625 OBTC - Batty/Milde/Zielke/White (mainly Batty, according to Bob)
(2) 54.625 Beggs/Gordge/Sampson (obviously mainly Sampson)
(3) 55 The Ferals - Pring/Oreo/Wellman/Whicker (Oreo missed a putt on 18th)
(4) 55 The Halfbacks (lost on a countback conducted by the Ferals)
(5) 55.25 The Clarks on a countback from The Tatts
Long Drives:
Mike Westerick, David Oreo (by 100 metres), Jill Thomas

Paul Crathern: par 3 twelfth
Long Drives & NTPs:

Wednesday Competition
19/07/17: North Adelaide
Five starters on a pleasant, cool day with the course in very ordinary condition following recent heavy rain. Good to see Damien back in full swing after a lengthy recovery period from his heart scare. He recorded 5 eclectic holes on the day.
Front nine: Mensforth (17)
Back nine: Whicker (18) from Methofer (16)
Overall: Mensforth & Whicker (31)
Highlight: Due solely to the Milde prize-giving system, Whicker & Mensforth (as joint overall winners, and winners on the front & back nine respectively) pocketed $2.50 each. Pring (second with 14 on the front nine) and Methofer (second with 16 on the back nine) pocketed $5.00 each. Multiple protests were simply outvoted, including a vote by Boyle (who didn't bloody play).
Next week: Wednesday 10.12 am and 10.19 am North Adelaide

Sunday Comp: Thaxted Park
16/07/17: Thaxted Park
Seventeen starters on a cold, windy, day with a shower mid-round just to cap it off.
Scores ranged from ordinary to appalling, but were memorable for the fact that Helen Cooper won not only the Women's Comp, but also the Overall Competition (on a countback from Kevin & Paul Crathern).
Helen is thought to be the first female 'overall' winner in EET history. As she outscored each of the Ferals on both nines and she is currently leading the footy tipping competition, she is really starting to piss people off.
Ball Winners (on a really cheap day for the Club):
Cooper, Crathern K and Crathern P (30)
Birdies:
K Crathern: par 4 sixth
D Oreo: par 4 thirteenth
Long Drives:
Burrett and Cooper

Wednesday Competition
19/06/17: Blackwood
Six starters used vouchers for another round at Blackwood. The scores did not reflect the lovely weather and excellent course, with only "Mr Consistency" (Bob Batty 36 points) and Kev Crathern (30 points) holding their heads up.
From the scores, it appears that our Secretary pulled out after 9 holes - but maybe not !!
21/06/17: North Adelaide
Pring reports: another glorious day - tops, vests, etc came off after the second hole, and stayed off until the end. Probably raining next week, so we enjoyed it while we could.
Meister lipped out about 5 times (comment: he has always been the second-most unlucky golfer in the EET).
Next week: Wed 28/06/17: South Course - 10.19am & 10.26 booked

Sunday Competition - Murray Bridge
11/06/17: Murray Bridge
Fourteen starters in perfect weather for golf, including a guest appearance by Joe Manning, a foundation member of the EET. Lots of really good golfers with scores in the high 20s.
Ball winners (if we had any):
Gordge: 38 points
Batty: 34
Whicker & Milde 32
Townsend: 31
Birdies:
Gordge: par 3 seventeenth
Womens' Competition:
Best score: Helen Cooper - and nearly won the long drive and six NTPs.
Helen also had a highlight on the ninth hole (a par 4 and one of the easiest on the course). Her five for 4 points, with no sign of an apology, would have made Damien blush.

Front nine: Whicker (18) from Boyle (17), Milde (15)
Back nine: Batty (20) from Boyle & Whicker (18), Milde & Harding (16), Crathern (15)
Overall: Whicker (36), Boyle (35), Batty & Milde (31)
Birdies:

Eclectic Holes:
Harding: 8th (6), 17th (5), 18th (5)
Crathern: 7th (5)
Milde: 13th (4)
Batty: 2nd (6), 11th (4)

Whicker: 11th (2)
Highlight:
Boyle, stymied behind the pine tree just short and left of the tenth green (with the flag back and extreme left), used the steep embankment on the RHS of the green to finish within 4 feet and sink the putt. Described as the "greatest up & down ever played in the history of golf". Wasn't bad.

Mt Osmond Results and Wednesday Comp Update
Sunday Competition - 28/05/17: Mount Osmond
Mr Pring reports:
- a torrential downpour on the first tee, followed by mainly sun and cloud the rest of the round (a 2 minute downpour on the 8th, plus a couple of light showers). Overall pretty good
- Long Drive - Kevin Crathern (the only person to hit the fairway)
- NTPs - Slugger, George, K Crathern and Ross
- Winner Rossco on 32 points (21 on the back), including five 3 pointers in a row. No-one else won a ball
- Kerri Oreo unfortunately dropped her scorecard on the 13th hole and the wind ripped it into many pieces
- six "pussies" pulled out on the first tee (including one who played with a border collie in front of a wood fire all afternoon).
Wednesday Competition Summary Update:
24/05/17: North Adelaide
Five starters on a lovely day for golf, with yet another golfing lesson from the Queensland tour champion, Kevin Crathern (39 points). Pring (34) wasn't embarrassing, but the rest were.
Pring birdied the par 5 seventh. Harding had two eclectic holes, Crathern another four.
The sooner Kevin's left-to-right shots return, the better for everyone.
17/05/17: Patawalonga
Five starters at the Pat, with good scores all round - 37 points for Crathern (unsurprisingly) & Gordge (surprisingly), Harding (34) & Batty (33). Milde clearly in handicap-management mode.
10/05/17: North Adelaide

Ball winners: Oreo (41 points) from Gordge (37), Freestone (36), Cleland (35), Pring (33), Mensforth (32), Methofer/Wellman/Thomas (30) and some very good golfers who didn't quite reach 30.
EET Singles Competition - Semi-Final
Ken Freestone snuck in over Damien Mensforth after an epic battle. Ken will now play the perennial champion, Bronte, in the Grand Final. Bronte suggests Victor Harbor as the venue.

Victor Ambrose and Wednesday Competition
05/02/17: Victor Harbor, Ambrose Competition
EET had two groups in the annual Ambrose Comp at Victor Harbor for Group 4 clubs - Tatts' team (with Don Wulff) and The Ferals.
The Ferals, dogged by their usual bad luck, finished 2nd in the Nett competition on 55.125, narrowly behind a West Lakes team. The Ferals birdied their first six holes (1-6) plus the 18th, for seven under. Pring's freak putting and Oreo's majestic approach shots meant that the boys were a bit excited on the seventh tee. The magic soon disappeared. Wellman was very consistent throughout !!
08/02/17: North Adelaide
Five starters on a sunny day which was almost too hot to enjoy (34C), with just a faint breeze at times.
Front nine: Methofer & Whicker (17)
Back nine: Whicker (17) from Methofer (16)
Overall: Whicker (34) from Methofer (33)
No birdies or four point holes
Eclectic Holes:
Methofer: 5 on fourteenth
Boyle: 4 on ninth

Wednesday Competition
Tuesday 07/02/17: Echunga
Four starters on a Tuesday at Echunga to avoid the stinking hot days forecast for the rest of the week.
Two of the starters had ruled themselves out of contention, despite recent good form:
- Methofer still hasn't recovered from his golf lesson with a professional
- Batty bought new clubs, which should preclude winning anything for 2017.
The Meister reports that it got hot towards the end and was muggy for the entire round, with lack of run on the fairways after the last couple of days rain.
As expected, the team of Pring/Batty won the front nine 3 up, but inexplicably lost the back nine down two to Methofer/Milde.

Pring with 19 on the front nine, tired on the back straight, but scored 30 overall. No one else did !!!

Wednesday Competition
01/02/17: North Adelaide
Another perfect summers day for golf - mild (25C), calm and generally overcast, with a hint of drizzle for one hole.
Only 3 starters, with Batty once again dominating. His 37 points included 13 from the four par threes. Handicap adjustments next week will put an end to that nonsense.
Methofer's birdie on his signature hole, the par 3 twelfth, was a highlight in his respectable round (33 points).

Wednesday Competition
25/01/17: North Adelaide
Five starters on a perfect day for golf - about 27C and sunny. However, I can verify that the rough was long on each of the eighteen holes.
A couple of good rounds, with some great scores on the front nine by Don & Bob.
Front nine: Boyle (22) from Batty (21)
Back nine: Whicker (18)
Overall: Boyle (36) from Batty (35), Whicker (33)
Birdies:
Batty: Par 3 fifth - a curling, downhill putt of 4 metres, into the wind, sun in his eyes for a 2 for 5, thanks very much. He had a handy 11 points on three of the par 3s.
Next Week: Note the early start time of 9.50 am, North Adelaide, South Course

Wednesday Competition
18/01/17: North Adelaide
Just the four starters on a perfect day for summer golf - 26C and sunny, with a light breeze. Was pretty warm when the breeze died. Once again, the standard of golf didn't match the day, particularly on the back nine.
Following a few outstanding rounds recently, Phil went for a lesson from the professional at Lady Bay. That should stuff up his scores for the next 6 months or so.
Front nine: Whicker (18) from Milde (17), Batty (16)
Back nine: Methofer & Whicker (14)
Overall: Whicker (32)
Birdies:
Whicker on par 4 eighth
No four point holes.

11/01/2017: North Adelaide
Four starters on a lovely day for golf - about 29C with a cooling breeze. Fairways and rough hadn't been cut since the previous week, but not a sufficient excuse for the pretty ordinary golf.
Front nine: Whicker (17), from Boyle (16)
Back nine: Boyle (15)
Overall: Boyle & Whicker (31)
Birdies:
Whicker: par 5 seventh
No four point holes;
Boyle/Batty snuck in over Methofer/Whicker

Wednesday Competition, EET Singles Semi Final
25/12/2016: North Adelaide
Just five starters for the last Wednesday of 2016, on a hot, humid day, with forgettable scores all round. Generally, the GA handicap exceeded the stableford score, which can't be good !!
Front nine: Batty (14 points)
Back nine: Methofer (12)
Overall: Milde & Crathern (29 points)
04/01/2017: North Adelaide
Eight starters on a sunny day which proved that 33C is the maximum temperature for old farts to play golf. It also established a new rule for 2017 that bloody Methofer has to advise the rest of us, in advance, when he is going to have an "on" day - to save our time and trouble !!
Front nine: Methofer (24 points) from Freestone (19) and Whicker (18)
Back nine: Paul Crathern (23) from Pring (19)
Overall: Methofer (41) from Crathern-the-Younger (38), Pring (34), Whicker (33)
Birdies:
Whicker: Par 3 sixth
Four Point Holes:
Crathern: Par 4 thirteenth
Freestone: Par 4 third
EET Singles Competition - Semi Final
Freestone blitzed the course early to win 6 of the first seven holes. Boyle fought back strongly to lead by one on the eighteenth tee, but Freestone halved the match. Given the hot conditions, both players thought for a nano-second about extra holes, then decided to toss a coin.
Under extreme pressure, Ken triumphed (tails won it !!) so will play Damien in the prelim final, with the winner to play the perennial EET Singles Champ (Bronte).
